Day One - Saturday
Your vacation starts here!
Welcome Aboard your flight to Scotland. During your
overnight Atlantic crossing dinner will be served along
with your choice of beverage. Catch a recently released
movie and youll soon be in Scotland.
Day Two Sunday
Welcome to Scotland
Youll be met on arrival at Glasgow International
Airport and transferred to your downtown hotel. The
remainder of the morning is free for rest and relaxation.
Join your fellow passengers at 13.00hrs for a welcome
reception before enjoying a tour of Glasgow. Known as
the "Dear Green Place" we will enjoy a tour
of the Victorian city centre before making our way to
the leafy West End where there is a visit to the Museum
of Transport. Later we will make our way to the country
surroundings of Pollok Park to visit the famed Burrell
Art Collection. This evening we will dine in a local
restaurant. Overnight: Thistle Glasgow Hotel, Glasgow.
Day Three
Monday
Lochs and Glens
We leave Glasgow behind as we head for the "Bonnie,
Bonnie Banks" and our first stop at wonderful Cameron
House on the banks of Loch Lomond for morning coffee
and home-made shortbread. Then it is through mysterious
Glen Coe to Fort William and the Great Glen beyond.
Well make a stop at Urquhart Castle, on the banks
of Loch Ness a favourite vantage point for "Nessie"
hunters - you never know your luck!
Dinner and overnight: Tulloch Castle Hotel, Dingwall.
Day Four Tuesday
Lighthouses and Blackhouses
We make the drive from Dingwall to the attractive
fishing port of Ullapool where we join the modern ferry
for the Outer Hebrides. On our arrival in Stornoway
well tour across the island to the rugged Butt
of Lewis where a lighthouse stands guard warning passing
ships of the nearby rocks. Next we will make a fascinating
visit to the Arnol Blackhouse Museum. A traditional
blackhouse was a combination of home, barn and byre
and it is hard to believe that this example was vacated
as recently as 1964. With no chimney to let the peat
fumes escape it is a difficult to imagine how life was
conducted not so very long ago. Dinner and overnight:
Royal Hotel, Stornoway.
Day Five Wednesday
Standing Stones, Beaches and Rodel
First we will visit the astonishing Callanish Standing
Stones. Archaeologists believe that these 15-foot stones
were placed here by Neolithic people sometime during
the period 3,000 and 1,500 BC. The site is rated second
in importance only to Stonehenge. Next we explore the
neighbouring island of Harris, including a visit to
a traditional Tweed weaver. The sweeping sandy beaches
on the Atlantic Coast lead us to the small community
of Rodel, where we visit St Clements church and
stroll around the pleasant harbour. Well retrace
our steps to the ferry port of Tarbert where we join
the afternoon ferry to cross "The Minch" for
the Isle of Skye. Tonight we will stay in a friendly,
superior guest house (with private facilities and many
other comforts) and dine in a local pub. Dinner and
overnight: Superior Guest House, Portree, Isle of Skye.
Day Six - Thursday
Dunvagen Castle and the Road to the Isles
This morning we drive to Dunvegan Castle, the ancestral
home of the Clan Macleod. There has been a castle on
this site since the 13th Century and its treasures include
the Fairy Flag, said to bring good luck to the Clan
in time of trouble. We tour through the entire length
of the Isle of Skye with breathtaking views of the Cuillin
Mountains, then sail across the Sound of Sleat to the
mainland. We will make a visit to Glenfinnan, the lonely
site of a monument commemorating the landing of Bonnie
Prince Charlie and his supporters in 1745. Dinner and
overnight: Ballachulish Hotel, Ballachulish.
Day Seven - Friday
Oban and Inveraray
A day of scenic beauty lies ahead of us as we travel
to the bustling fishing town of Oban, situated on the
Firth of Lorne. Well enjoy free time for shopping
or sightseeing before we continue our drive to the town
of Inveraray, with its pretty white-painted cottages
and attractive castle. We continue our scenic drive
along the banks of Loch Eck to Dunoon where we will
board our final ferry for the 20 minute crossing of
the Firth of Clyde. A short drive brings us to Glasgow
then onwards to Glasgow. This evening we have made no
arrangements for dinner so that you may enjoy dining
in one of the Capitals fine restaurants.
For passengers travelling on the 27 July and 10 August
departures there is a visit to the famed Edinburgh Military
Tattoo. Overnight: Apex City Hotel, Edinburgh
Day Eight- Saturday
Edinburgh Awaits
After breakfast we'll join our coach for a tour of Edinburgh.
On our day of discovery we'll tour the magnificent Georgian
crescents and squares of the "New Town" and
hear stories of murder and mystery as we travel the
medieval "Royal Mile". The highlight of our
tour is a visit to Edinburgh Castle where there is the
opportunity to view the Scottish Crown Jewels and the
Stone of Destiny, the seat on which ancient Kings of
Scotland were crowned . Our tour is timed so that you
can be present at the firing of the famous 1 o'clock
gun - used as a time signal throughout the city. The
remainder of the day is free for individual pursuits.
Overnight: Apex City Hotel, Edinburgh
Day Nine - Sunday
